Questions - Answers
|Which are the advantages of glass packaging ?|
|There is a number of reasons that justify the superiority of glass packaging over others.|
Glass is :
- chemically inert,
- totally impermeable to microorganisms and oxygen,
- utterly air - and water - tight,
- made of purely natural raw materials,
- superior in preserving product freshness,
- 100% recyclable ,
- transparent, offering visual assessment of the product and superior image
over any other packaging material.
|How are glass containers manufactured ?|
|The main raw materials used in glass production are sand, soda ash, limestone and cullet.
These materials are mixed and heated to a temperature of 1600 to 1650 degrees Celsius.
When they melt, they are transformed to a transparent liquid, which can be shaped
to the desired design, size and color.|
|How does recycling fit into the manufacturing process ?|
|Glass is the only 100% recyclable material.|
Recycling sounds far more complex than it actually is.
Glass recycling starts when containers are deposited in the recycling bins. Trucks collect the contents
of the recycling bins and carry them to specialized sites. There, they are rinsed-off, cleared of non-glass
components, separated according to color and in turn transformed into cullet, which can be used as the raw
material for the production of new bottles or jars.
|Which types of glass can be recycled ?|
|We can recycle whatever we produce: glass bottles and jars. Other forms of glass - such as windows and crystal -
are manufactured through a different process. If these materials are introduced into the manufacturing process,
they can cause production problems and defective containers.|
